Should the pro-life movement speak to this?

Backstory

The FOX News Network is a national network. “Fair and balanced” was how they branded themselves. Years ago, I would watch FOX regularly. That was back when the Ohio Gov., John Kasich, was a FOX News Contributor. Yet the channel did have a conservative bias. The majority of those who worked for the station obviously shared this bias. The station has always criticized what they call “the mainstream liberal media.” By “liberal media,” they are referring mainly to the CNN and NBC networks. It seems that their rise is a reaction to this “liberal media.”
And I can sympathize with why people would want to carve out such a niche for themselves. We all want to find our voice. No, I don’t knock FOX for setting up a network. I deplore what they have become.

My family have always disliked FOX News. They hate it today. “They are ruining the country with their lies and hate,” “They are not news; they deal in hate,” and “They incite hate.” During the 2016 election, FOX seemed to be trying to help Trump win. Even during the primaries, the network had promoted Trump above the other sixteen candidates. And he obviously enjoyed making frequent appearances on the shows. It was back then that sexual harassment cases became well-known. The Roger Ailes case made headlines. Women anchors alleged that he sexually harassed them. And FOX was sued. I have provided a link to an article below.

Days ago, we learned that Bill O’Reilly was accused of sexual harassment. I was not shocked. Months ago, I had read an article. In it, I had learned that the O’Reilly children had alleged that their dad was guilty of physical violence toward their mom. One of the anchors brought this case forward. Her first name is Wendy. She rebuffed his advances. According to her, the anchor had grown hostile toward her. Very quickly. And other women, reportedly, are alleging that Bill O’Reilly has similarly had inappropriate relations with them. Below, I have linked to an article.

The FOX News anchor is fast losing credibility. Reports say that several dozen (36) companies have pulled their ads from his talk show. Ironically, this month of April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

FOX News N Pro-life Movements

Pro-life advocates have normally gravitated to FOX News. I understand this. The network has had people sympathetic to the pro-life worldview. And we typically go where we’re sure people will receive our message.
And I know that many pro-lifers, being conservative, listen to FOX News. This I know, because of numerous things they’ve said. People on FOX have addressed abortion from the pro-life world of view. And this is why the pro-life movement have typically favored this network. Even one of my former pastor, in a sermon, revealed that he listed to FOX News.

This Case

Bill O’Reilly has fallen out of favor. The other night, many companies have reportedly pulled their ads from his show. Wendy Walsh has appeared with Lisa Bloom, civil rights attorney. Bloom is representing Walsh. That night, footage was shown of the incident. Wendy is one of six women alleging sexual harassment by the FOX News anchor. And Lisa Bloom declared: “What you are seeing is nothing compared to the sexually explicit terms Bill O’Reilly has said to other women.” And the FOX anchor is denying any wrongdoing. Many people have observed that we live in a “rape” culture.

Pro-lifers, What About Our Credibility?

What does this have to do with the pro-life message? With the sanctity of human life? I feel the need to ask because it seems only women’s groups and allies are speaking out on this disregard for women. Now I know I’m leaving myself open for charges of getting political. But politics affects our daily lives! Currently, we have a President who says, “No one respects women more than I do.” But his actions often say otherwise. The majority of his Cabinet members are male. The President has shown no contrition for demeaning things he has often said about women during his campaign. And he has defended Roger Ailes in his sexual harassment case. “He is a good person. He has always supported me.” And now? He defends Bill O’Reilly. “He is a good man. I don’t think he’s done anything wrong.”

People look to the President as the standard-bearer. And most American Christians, in 2016, endorsed Trump. Some leaders anointed him as “the man of the hour.” Christians took to heart his promises to nominate a pro-life Supreme Court Justice. And to protect, even enhance, religious freedom. The overwhelming majority of pro-lifers have supported Trump. Much for the same reasons. I know it is because they saw him as “the lesser of two evils.” But what message does it send to those who don’t agree with us? We have lost credibility with many civil rights and women’s advocacy groups. For lining up behind a man who has shown blatant disrespect for women and minorities.

Pro-lifers, We Need 2 Speak to This

Yes, we focus on abortion and euthanasia. The unborn and those at the end of life. We call on others to respect and recognize their humanity. And we’re have a tough time understanding how so many will not regard the sanctity of these lives. But when we don’t speak to issues concerning the well-being of women (except in relation to their babies), I dare say we lose credibility. And it makes it harder for pregnancy centers to do their work. Many have seen most of us support Trump (understandably), despite his attitudes. And actions. And I have not seen any pro-life voices weight in on the scandals concerning FOX News, including Bill O’Reilly.

Let’s keeping making clear that we are pro-life “for the whole life.” For women’s lives as well as babies’ lives!
