Exploring Pro-Life, Male ViewpointsTheir lives are sacred!

Bible verse of the day

Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

Exploring Male, Pro-Life Viewpoints

My name is Richard Fischer, and I’m married to abortion survivor and pro-life speaker Carrie Holland Fischer. But why am I pro-life? Why did I marry an abortion survivor? Why, before  I had even met Carrie, had I begun to establish what we now call the Zion Benjamin International Memorial for the Unborn ? I’m not sure I can cover it all in  the amount of space I have here on this post, but let me start with something my parents began teaching me very early in my life, and continued to impart to me over the years. Specifically, there words to me were, “The right to swing your arms ends where the other guys nose begins”.

No, when they first started sharing this with me. More than 50 years ago,  abortion wasn’t even in the picture. It wasn’t a household word,  and it wasn’t a “right” in our country…it was still something that most people probably didn’t even know about, never mind get involved with, but it did begin to shape my character…it did become part of who I am today, and when I learned of abortion, it was a no-brainer for me that nobody should have the right to take an innocent life, even if the person was the child’s mother.

Journey to My Pro-Life, Male Perspective

As I progressed in school, I began to learn about our United States Constitution, and that our founding fathers believed that we had numerous rights given to us by God, and among them are these three basic ones, which are in this particular order. They are, the RIGHT TO LIFE, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. I believe that our founding fathers put them in that order for a reason, because if we put our Liberty or our Pursuit of Happiness above the Right that everyone has to live, then all the other rights come tumbling down and amount to nothing! It’s like the old saying, “Free speech is not a right to cry fire in a crowded theater…especially when there is NO FIRE”. You may think you have a right to do that kind of thing. And you may decide to exercise what you believe is your right. But you’d be infringing on everybody else’s right who bought the tickets to watch the movie you supposedly came to watch yourself. And you are keeping them from enjoying the movie they paid good money to see. You will probably be very quickly escorted out of the theater. And possibly you’ll even be arrested for, at the very least, something like disorderly conduct.

Why I’m Pro-Life

Now on to one final reason why I’m pro-life. Though many pro-life people are not, I happen to be a Christian. And both the Christian, as well as the Jewish Bibles say the same thing in Proverbs 31:8-9. Before I quote the verse however, I would like to first mention that Proverbs 31 begins as an admonishment to men about how to conduct themselves in a Godly manner. And then it goes on a bit later to speak to women about how they too should express Godliness in their lives. But right in between these to clearly different portions of Proverbs 31, are verses 8-9. THese verses, to me clearly speak to both men and women. The verses read:

Open your mouth for the speechless,
In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,

And plead the cause of the poor and needy. (NKJV)

The unborn facing abortion are both “speechless” and are “appointed to die”. And thus, God commands both men and women to open our mouths and speak  up. And we’re to “JUDGE RIGHTEOUSLY”. Yet it also commands us to plead the cause of the poor and needy. No, not everyone who faces a crisis pregnancy is poor. But many of them are. And so in addition to standing for the life of their unborn children, I believe this: we also need to offer those that are poor, viable options to and practical assistance with their needs. These include expenses of birthing and raising a child. Perhaps it’s placing that child, once it is born, into a loving adoptive family. Carrie and I have regrettably not been able to have children of our own. We have sadly miscarried on two occasions. And in fact, our ministry website bears the name the Lord gave us for the first of our two miscarried children! You may click here to learn more about Zion’s Story
